Introduction

The database aims to establish biographical data for the authors found within the "Modern Women Journals Database" in an effort to balance out recent trends of biographies and the subjects of related studies being male-oriented. To date, the biographical information of writers of the Ladies' Journal (Funü zazhi, 1915–1932) and of Women's Support (Funü gongming, 1929–1944) has already been completed. The project uses labels concerning biographical data and journal articles to process the social networks of the authors, with labelled individuals, groups, journals, and events acting as the nodes of clusters. The general information, or attributes, of the authors, namely gender, place of ancestry, dates of birth and death, and academic degree, have also been included in the system. Users are now able to have a bird's-eye view of the structures of groups of authors, and in turn, explore the social networks and the narrative contexts of female authors.

To better assist the development of digital humanities research, the database is open for users to download the files regarding labels and statistical data. Users can thus use the information to perform analyses revolving around social networks and the frequency of keywords, among others.
