Users only need to register once, after which it is possible to access all of the topical databases (English-Chinese Dictionary Database, the Modern Annals TIS system, the Integrated Information System on Modern and Contemporary Characters, Qing Dynasty Grain Price Database, Qing Dynasty Memorial Archives, Modern Urban Tabloid Database, Modern Women Journals Database, Modern Historical Book Compilation Full-text Database, Firms in Modern China Database). One can directly register for an account online and then immediately beginning searching. Each subscription is limited to one full year of access. When the subscription expires you will need to re-authenticate your email address and then re-register to login.
《英華字典資料庫》收錄1815年至1919年間極具代表性的早期英華字典，由外籍宣教士及語言學家，如馬禮遜、衛三畏、麥都思、羅存德、井上哲次郎、鄺其照、顏惠慶、翟理斯、赫美玲等人編纂而成。資料庫現有字典24套，其中全文輸入14套，含11套英華字典、3套華英字典，合計約有英文詞目11.3萬個，中文詞目1.8萬個，對應84萬個中英文解釋、例句等詞條。其餘10套僅提供影像瀏覽。各書語料繁富，是研究近代中國語言流變及中西文化交流軌跡的重要工具書。 The English-Chinese Dictionary Database covers records compiled between 1815 and 1919 and represents an early period English-Chinese character dictionary. It was edited and completed by foreign missionaries and linguists the likes of Robert Morrison, Samuel Wells Williams, Walter Henry Medhurst, Wilhelm Lobscheid, Inoue Tetsujirō, Kuang Qizhao (Kwang Ki-Chaou), Yan Huiqing, Herbert Allen Giles, and Karl Ernst Georg Hemeling. The database houses a twenty-four volume character dictionary of which fourteen volumes have been completely entered, including eleven volumes of the English-Chinese character dictionary along with three volumes of the Chinese-English character dictionary which together contain approximately 113,000 entries for English words and 18,000 entries for Chinese words, corresponding to 1.68 million entries of Chinese-English explanations, sample sentences, and so forth. The remaining ten volumes provide only image browsing. The rich text corpus in this multivolume set is an important tool for the study of the transformations in modern Chinese language and for examining the locus of Chinese-Western cultural exchanges.
