I woke early in the morning, reading and writing letters to my family.

In the evening Wang Chonghui invited the French Ambassador to have dinner at his home. Section head Lu asked me if I would join them at Wang’s home. I thought that if I joined Xu Mo would need to eat outside. I did not want to trouble him so I replied that I had another commitment. So I went with Yukun and Tianjuan to various bookstores to buy books. Then we had a meal at the Xinduhui restaurant. The food was quite good but the so-called waitresses were really ugly. (Shi Qiong had married someone.)
