Deng Zhaoyin discussed his economic plan with me. He wanted to be in touch with the wealthy Sichuan militarists, urging them to dedicate their effort towards economic development and reforming the Sichuan people’s lives. If they  do so it would be hard to maintain the situation. He said that he had made substantial contacts with them. I agreed with what he said. Li Jishen was also kind to Deng Zhaoyin. So he intended to stay here longer. I urged him to move to Dushiqiao and live with me. He agreed. He was quite good to Zhang Bojun and Peng Zexiang. I told him that he should not regard them too highly. Peng Zexiang and Zhang Bojun were fine to be friends, but as for their political knowledge and power perhaps they  belong with the top-class figures.
