From 7.00 to 11.30 at the office. At 1.00 to Wangshan with President Sun Fo, Section Chief Shen Zonglian (沈宗濂), Secretary Ling and Counsellor Ding to find a suitable site for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and President Sun Fo’s residence. On our way President Sun Fo spoke a great deal about the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and criticised Dr. Wang Chonghui’s managerial method. I visited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs office at Nanshan. An awful place. No wonder no one wants to go there. Had supper at Zeng Yangfu’s (曾養甫).[1] Talked about the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He asked my opinion about an active man as a representative for the Burma Road in Burma. I said Xia Jinglin’s recommendation of Yu Ming was not bad. At 10.00 p.m. Dr. Wang Chonghui called. He advised appointing Chen Daichu (陳岱礎)[2] as First Secretary to a foreign legation or embassy in order to give face to President Lin Sen. I thought a First Class secretary too high for one who has come back to China and joined the service only two or three years ago.

[1] Zeng Yangfu(1898-1969) was a native of Guangdong and a famous politician. He was close to Chen Lifu. He had studied at Pittsburgh University.
