Lou Tongsun called. He told me about the Fourth Route Army affair as heard from Xie Guansheng (謝冠生)[1]. Later I read a full account in the paper. Why should Ye Ting (葉挺)[2] behave like that? No one should depend upon what the Chinese Communist Party has said judging from He Yingqin and Bai Chongxi’s telegram to them. What can the Communists gain if the Kuomintang should lose the cause, and we are defeated by the Japs? Do these communist rascals think they can have a better chance under the Japs?

[1] Xie Guansheng (1897-1971) was a legal scholar from Zhejiang who had studied in France.

[2] Ye Ting (1896-1946) was a Cantonese CCP military leader.
