At 7.30 I went to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to tell Xu Mo that Chen Daichu was unwilling to take up the post of Second Class Secretary. Xu Mo was really angry, saying if Chen was honoured with a First Class Secretary position, then his Second Class Secretaries and others would leave as it was too unfair to other people. Xu Mo also told me that Chen’s wife was not in accord with his mother. He said it was so difficult that it was embarrassing to relate the whole thing. It also involved Chairman Lin Sen and the Head of Civilian Officials Wei Huai. There are always so many strange things in the world. I worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and returned to my home at noon.
