Left Chungking
Saturday, 27 January
From 10.00 in the morning to 12.30 noon we had a meeting in the Legislative Yuan discussing the organization and legal aspects of the Finance Ministry. It took quite a long time.
At 2.00 p.m. Sun Fo asked me to go to Beibei with him. Deng Zhaoyin and Zhaojue went with us to tour Beibei City and the park.
At 4.00 p.m. I began my journey to return to Chungking alone.
I had a meal with Sun Fo, Deng Zhaoyin, and Yukun at the Huili restaurant. Its western food was quite nice, but its prices were divided into three, five and ten dollars, which was too expensive.
At 9.00 in the morning Wang Chonghui invited me to have a chat with him at his home. His wife had arrived. She was most discontented with Dr. Tcheng Soumay, (鄭毓秀)[1] saying she has tolerated her for some ten years and she cannot stand her any longer. If Dr. Tcheng Soumay pressed Wang Chonghui again she would quarrel with her. She also said only Hu Hanmin (胡漢民)[2] knew her difficulty. So when Hu Hanmin died she cried more than losing her father. I thought she was really a virtuous wife. No wonder Hu Hanmin said that she possessed both modern knowledge and old morals, which was enough to be the model of a virtuous wife. Wang Chonghui told me how the Sino-Soviet Commercial Treaty was passed and how Chen Guofu (陳果夫)[3] had recommended Xie Shoukang (謝壽康) to be the Minister to Turkey. He also said President H.H. Kung had never mentioned that Ling Jidong would be the Minister to Turkey. I talked to him until 12.30 a.m. then I returned to the Round House.
