At 8 a.m., the memorial service. The Generalissimo spoke on foreign affairs. He said nobody can tell how the Balkans will develop and we have to wait for another six months to be sure of our situation. Such a tone is quite unlike the Generalissimo, and we all wondered why? He emphasised the importance of food control and a sort of planned economy, with greater power over production and distribution by the government. He mentioned our land policy also. When he apologised again for the improper way he had addressed Zhang Ji, we all admired him. At 7.30 p.m. Ma Chaojun was invited to the Round House in honour of Mrs. Sun.
