At 7.00 a.m. to the Central Government’s Memorial Week service and afterwards to Guo Taiji’s. He told me he had informed Xu Mo of Miss Wu’s affairs so that he may be prepared for the worst to come. Later in the afternoon, Dr. Wang Chonghui said he was asked by Xu Mo to speak to the Generalissimo for him saying that if she is not allowed to go, she will probably be driven to desperation and may even commit suicide. With such a scandal hanging over his head, he cannot possibly go. Even his wife may divorce him. Dr. Wang Chonghui therefore spoke to the leader this morning. But the latter was very firm and asked Dr. Wang Chonghui to persuade Miss Wu to be among his staff. But Xu Mo and Dr. Wang were in utter despair and the latter asked my advice. I told him he should ask the help of Dr. Kung who, in my opinion, is the only man who can possibly do something to help him. Dr. Wang Chonghui agreed.

Guo Taiji invited Xie Baoqiao to supper and we talked about Baoqiao helping Owen Lattimore. Guo Taiji was very nice about it and arranged to introduce him to Lattimore. Met Miss Tu, a very charming girl just returned from the U.S.A.
