At 7.30 I went to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ambassador Shao Lizi reported his conversation with the British Ambassador Clark Kerr. Kerr said that in so far as the American navy had increased its force in [D…refer to original] in the Atlantic so it had reduced it in the Pacific. With regard to Japan, besides economic sanctions, the United States still warned it not to arouse trouble in Thailand and the Soviet Union so as to prolong the war. Japan also intended to form a co-existance understanding with the United States in the Pacific and at the moment secret negotiations are under way. Shao Lizi demanded cabling Hu Shih, and I asked him to try to stop it. Alarm. At 3.30 I went to Wang Chonghui’s, and took the car to Dushiqiao with him, Xie Baoqiao and Yukun. We arrived at 6.00. Wang Chonghui lives in Wu Shangying’s place.
