Seventeenth day of the twelth lunar month
At 10.00 a.m. I was received by Chairman Lin Sen (林森)[1] at his residence at Shuangheqiao. He had caught a cold and had had a runny nose for several days but still he talked to me at length. The guidance was all honest advice from an elder. The main notion was that I should wait for opportunity and should not push too fast for success. As diplomacy with the Soviet Union is one of great difficulty, he told me not to be discouraged if I could not accomplish much. He also told me that not making mistakes in diplomacy with the Soviet Union was tantamount to success. I was gratified by his kindness.
At 6.00 Mei Xinru (梅心如) invited me to dinner at Xinshubao at No.88 Baixiang Street. At 7.00 I went to the dinner organised by Secretary General Wu Tiecheng.
[1] Lin Sen (1868-1943) was a veteran revolutionary.
