This week the British and American airplanes bombarded Berlin five times. The scale was so enormous that it was really the greatest in the history of bombardment. The Swedish Minister told me that the four houses in Berlin belonging to the Swedish Embassy have been destroyed. The German Government Ministries of diplomacy, propaganda and military were destroyed, and the cream of the city turned into rubble. The German broadcast said they have had to evacuate more than 3 to 4 million people, then the Britain propagated that the destruction of the bombardment wasn’t exaggerated. German and Japanese warlords advocated this destructive aggression policy, and now they have started to suffer the bad results. The British air force planned to bombard one hundred important cities, if the scale could be the same as the Berlin bombardment, perhaps such large-scale bombing could force the Germans to submit. The American Ambassador Harriman said the British and American situation was different from the Soviet Union, because their advantaage was materials but not population. Therefore, it was better to use their materials to score victory rather than to sacrifice population. Perhaps this was the aim of the bombardment.

Hu came to talk until about midnight.
