In the morning Chengyong reported that the business of the Shanglong restaurant in the past ten days was quite good. He also said Zhang Zhu had introduced an overseas Chinese cook to us. But when Kitty told Mrs. Sun about it, Mrs. Sun suddenly said they would move out soon and we should not employ the cook. Probably, Sun Fo and his wife are unaccustomed to the simple lifestyle here and they were uncomfortable with it. But Kitty had some misunderstandings with it. I was afraid that it would not yield a good result if they stayed longer, which would perhaps affect my deep friendship with Sun Fo for some thirty years. Therefore, if they really want to move out, I do not dare to ask them to stay.

In the past few days the water level of River Seine has kept rising. For safety reasons, I moved the things of the cellar to the floor of my reading room.
