Sun Liren resigned his position as President Chief of Staff, being involved in a spy case. Li Qingxin (李慶馨) told me the other day that Sun had been appointed as President Chief of Staff because Chiang wanted him to be in closer touch with himself in order to raise Sun’s status within the party. I am very much afraid that that Li is trying too hard to interpret things in a favorable light towards his own friends.

An overseas Chinese, Mr. Xia, came with one of his Indonesian friends to the restaurant.  They were merchants from Indonesia.  Last year, as part of a delegation, they had travelled to many parts of the Chinese mainland, and spent over three months there. They seemed very much disappointed with the Communist authorities. The Indonesian Government allows any Chinese to go back to Communist China but refuses to issue a return visa. Many Chinese there would rather become Indonesian subjects.
