Twentieth day of the twelth lunar month
At noon, Qian Tai (錢泰)[1] invited me to a farewell lunch at the hotel. I have been working with him for one and a half years, and we got on very well. He is well-learned, handles matters with delicacy, and is honest and peaceful, so I respected him very much. Soon he will go back to take up the post as Ambassador to Belgium. Some people thought he wanted to plant his own people in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs so as to buttress his own position. I thought if people had this view they didn’t know his character.
At 5.00 in the afternoon, I went to see Minister Song.
At 6.00 I went to the farewell dinnther at the Guangdong restaurant organised by Minister Liu Guisheng (劉桂生) and Chen Qingyun (陳慶雲)[2].
[1] Qian Tai (1886-1962) had studied in France. He was a diplomat.
[2] Chen Qingyun (1897-1981) was Cantonese and lived in Japan when he a child. He was a Nationalist Government Air Force Leader.
