Monday, 27 May

In the past two days, the city has quietened down. This morning the Government publicized a decree for the dismissal of Huang Zhenwu, Liu Wei and Le Gan. The President also received the American Ambassador, Karl L. Rankin, at noon yesterday. Probably this matter can be solved with time. Regarding a published article about the destruction of the US Embassy, an American Embassy report seemed to indicate that the American side was not happy with our policemen. This is the same as what Guo Dequan had said.

Huang Chaoqin invited us for a banquet at Leiyuan. (His residence is at No.117, Zhongshan Road, Yangmingshan) He sent his car to collect me. Zhongxiong and Zhiwei were also invited. Yang Junyi (楊君毅) was also in the same car. I talked to Yang a little, but I was deliberately cool so as to avoid Yang thinking that I was so eager for [it](9). Therefore after the banquet ended I did not take the car of Huang Chaoqin but took the car of Wu Huoshi to return to Taipei instead. As the banquet ended early I went to visit Khóo Péng. Afterwards Wu invited us to the Fengxian restaurant at Tianshui Road. I did not return to the hotel until 11:30. (Cui (10) and Mary were there. They would work for the restaurant starting from tomorrow.)

9] This sentence is not so clear.
