I received a letter of Sun Fo on the 5th of this month, in reply to my letter of 24th April. He said in his letter that since the matter of visa was hopeful he would continue to prepare for the trip. But he could only leave by next month the earliest. He also said both Cai Zengji (蔡增基) and Wu Shangying wrote to him and had urged him to go to the United States for endeavoring [good relations]. Cai was particularly vehement in advocating the organization of the third power. But Sun Fo had replied that he would not join as he thought that this was impractical. I thought so.

General MacArthur said he was quite satisfied that Marshall had declared that he opposed Taiwan and the CCP joining the United Nations.  He felt that Marshall had completely changed his policy. (It referred to the letter by the deputies of Marshall, Roberts, and Lovett, to Clement Attlee on 31 March. The letter said that these two issues could be discussed at the same time to solve the problems of the war in Korea). He also said he was delighted that the attitude of the British government towards the CCP was increasingly tough, and that  Britain opposed sending materials from Hong Kong to the CCP. Such expression from MacArthur was quite appropriate.
