We went to the American Embassy to watch a film. The American Ambassador Standley told me in confidence that tomorrow morning he would take a special flight back to the United Stated to arrange a conference between Roosevelt, Churchill and Stalin. I asked him whether he would come back to the post or not. He said he would have to wait until after he was back in the United States. But from his words it sounded as if he would not be back. I told him about the recent developments regarding the transportation issue, and asked him to convey about it to Minister Song when he saw him. He is a nice person and is friendly to China. It is a great pity that the Soviet Union didn’t treat him well, so he is very disappointed with it.
In the morning, I went to see an art exhibition with Attaché Hu. The works are quite good.
