The Japanese Foreign Office denied that the American side had forced Japan to form a treaty with the Nationalist government. The Japanese Prime Minister stated the reasons as follows:
- Commerce between China and Japan was not as important as circulated outside.
- On 17 November 1952, Japan had set up a Commercial Representative Bureau in Taiwan.
- In the various declarations, Japan had declared that it could not come into diplomatic relationship with Communist countries.
- Even for Britain itself, Churchill also viewed the recognition of CCP by the Labour Government as “paper recognition”.
The broadcasting station of Guangzhou has warned Hong Kong side that Hong Kong is the territory of China. Now it had been used by anti-reactionary elements as their base. No wonder the Hong Kong side feels uneasy.
Ye Gongchao made a statement to the press, welcoming to come into a treaty with Japan.
