Ninth day of the twelfth lunar month, Yiwei year

After I rose this morning I wrote to Liu Ruiqi with regard to the matter of the movie. I also wrote to Dianbang [as follows].

Dear Dianbang,

I am sorry that I have not written to you for a long period of time. Last autumn, Mr.Ruiqi visited me and I learned about what you are doing in detail. I was more than happy about it. What I am doing here is not worthy of mention. Mr. Baoqiao said that I am a POW (Prisoner of Wife). I was free in my life but, during my old age, that I am in such a situation now has been pre-destined. The British literary writer, De Quincey, said that toothache is the worst thing in life, because everyone has this pain but it would not lead to death. This is also true to be a “Prisoner of Wife”. Universally speaking, not a single man is unafraid of his wife, but I have not heard of anyone hanging himself because of fear of wife. I feel pain but I do not moan.  Upon learning this, my friends must laugh at me. You are now leading a life of leisure in Hong Kong. I think you should learn to fear your wife as it is also one way of moral cultivation. Smile. My greetings to you.

After lunch, I felt ill and returned home for a rest. In the evening, I was so ill that I could not go back to the restaurant.
