Dull

In the morning I went to the second-hand book shop with Chengyong and I bought several books. The prices seemed to be slightly cheaper than a few months ago.  I also went to some other second-hand shops and the diplomatic shop. There was nothing worth buying.

Several days ago, the British Daily Express published an editorial, attacking the Chinese Government saying China was not worthy enough to be called one of the Big Four Powers, and China could not unify. The most ridiculous part was that the Song family has already been anti-Chiang, and the two Chens (Chen Lifu and Chen Guofu) were independent. The editorial finally said China could organise a federate Government after it defeated Japan. From this we can see the misunderstanding between China and Britain deepening. Both sides still haven’t yet tried to mend it. It worried me.

Goebbels made a long speech to the German people last night, urging them to fight to the end. His words were like a bird crying when it is about to die. For the Japanese part, it continued its victory broadcast while shielding its defeat. It is really ridiculous.

The British broadcast said Stilwell has been recalled to the United States to take up another important post, but the reason is unknown.

I heard the enemy started to attack Guilin yesterday. As for Zhang Fakui, I was not certain whether he could mount an effective resistance or not. I was deeply worried because recently the military progress of Britain, the United States and the Soviet Union has been so smooth that they became arrogant. If our side was still showing weak in the battlefields, our international situation would be severely affected.
