At 1 p.m. I had lunch with the Generalissimo Shao Lizi 邵力子)[1] was the only other guest. Jiang Weiguo (蔣緯國)[2] was there. The Generalissimo asked Shao Lizi and me to study the Soviet problem more and said he would give us more detailed instructions after he has seen Panyushkin who will arrive this afternoon from Moscow. He was of the opinion that the Japanese will start their adventure against Soviet Russia sometime this spring. I expressed my opinion on the Soviet attitude and he agreed. I suggested I take Yang Yunzhu (楊雲竹) with me. He consented. He asked me who would take up my work at the Legislative Yuan. When I told him that Lou Tongsun may take up the F.R.C and Lin Bin the Civil Code Committee, he asked a great deal about them. [Name unclear] called. He told me something about the situation in Xinjiang and Chaucer Wu’s recent reports. Xu Naiqian (徐乃謙) and Xie Jialiu (謝家騮) called. They are very nice. Read Davies’ Mission to Moscow, very interesting and informative.
