Deputy President H.H. Kung invited me to lunch at his new residence at Xinkai at Geleshan; probably it was a lunch for the British Ambassador. After lunch Mrs. Kung and Madame Chiang came downstairs to the parlour to accompany us and talk. I thought that the highest authority of our country should not become too close to embassy and consulate personnel, as this could make them have increasingly less respect for diplomatic authority. This could create even more difficult circumstances for those in charge of diplomacy.
