A reporter of the London Times, Brandon, reported from Washington that:
- i) Britain did not think in accord with American protection of Jinmen Island.
- ii) In the next meeting of the United Nations, it would not be easy for the American side to continue supporting the representatives of the National Government.
iii) That Chiang had exercised veto power this time proves the danger of the United States inclining to the National Government.
The American President has decided to raise the issue of increasing the budget for foreign assistance in the next year to five hundred million dollars. Two hundred and thirty million US dollars have been added compared with this last year. This has been a sudden decision made in these few days. Comparing the military and political expenditures has further proved that what Dulles recently said in Paris about competition with the Soviet Union has entered the political and economic stage. But on the military aspect, it still retains its budget.
