I received a postcard from niece Deng Wanzhen (鄧婉真). She said that she has married Liang Yuanhan (梁元漢) in Liuzhou on 23 July this year. I felt very relieved. I confess that I haven’t helped my nieces and nephews much and I was deeply sorry to sister An. When she was on her death bed she asked me to take care of her children and originally I made up my mind to do so. When my mother was alive she always thought of them. But during this great disaster I was unable to even take care of my own children. I had the will but no power. I thought if sister An knew this she would forgive me.
I received a letter from niece Huimei. She is deeply worried about the safety of her parent and siblings when the Allied Army invades Hong Kong in the future. She is really quite good.
I talked to Vice Military Attachés Zhou(s). Both of them have been fighting along the coast in Guangdong and in Burma. According to them, when the American army lands in China, Shanwei and Mirs Bay would be the most appropriate. They also said that when the Allied aid materials were sent to China, after the infantry received three months of training, and artillery and light tank soldiers then after six to nine months they could use them. They said if we have more than one and a half million men with modern weapons we should be able to defeat the enemy. The weapons used by the enemy in China haven’t really been the best. The artillery has not been very heavy either.
