I went with Qian Tai to travel to Guo Taiji’s place at Wangshan for lunch. Today there was a little rain but it was really very cold. We talked next to the heater and decided upon the personnel for the embassies in Turkey, and various States in South America. Guo Taiji told me that Madame Gu Weijun had asked the Governor of the Philippines, and Roosevelt and his wife, to mobilise General Chiang and his wife on her behalf about sending Gu Weijun as the Chinese Ambassador to the United States. During the conversation, Roosevelt showed signs of looking down on Gu and his wife. Guo Taiji asked [unclear] to tell Gu Weijun as he deeply knew that this was not from Gu himself. Well, nothing can be done if one has a bad wife.
Because one German military officer was murdered, Hitler unexpectedly ordered some fifty-odd innocent people in French gaols to be shot. This rude and horrible act really made people extremely furious. Both President Roosevelt and Churchill made a declaration about this. Hitler’s failure is certain because in the long course of history there is no example of those who bully people or solely depend on force being successful.
