Chairman Chiang sent a congratulatory telegram to Chairman Kalinin which I havereceived today. I immediately asked someone to translate it into Russian and sent it to Minister Molotov via mail and asked him to forward it immediately.
Today the British broadcast commented on China’s condition. Though it had criticisms, it said that the Chinese condition was different from those in Western Europe. That China proposed to accept reforms styled after Western Europe while still retaining its traditional culture. It was not too bad.
The criticism of the Chinese newspapers mainly focused on the personal attack on Mr. He Yingqin. They viewed him as the biggest obstacle to Chinese unification and military reform, and said that he should be dismissed, otherwise Sino-American relations could not be improved.
