Xu Shengfa(許勝發) and Xie Yuansen(謝源森) (Zhongtai Transportation Company) came. They invited me to go to Xu’s home for a banquet (13). They came at 6:00 p.m. I went with them to Xu’s home. Xu’s father-in-law, mother-in-law, as well his wife came to receive us. It did not end until 9:00. Both of them (and I) went to Wanlihong. I did not return to House of Freedom until 12:30 in the morning.

In the morning the former “Beauty of Qingdao”, Yuan Huixie (袁慧燮), visited me. After she had divorced Dr. Liu, she married Lu Xiaojia (one of the former “four dandies”). I first knew her in 1931, when she was elected as “Beauty of Qingdao”. I was her dancing partner. Now she is close to fifty years old and her situation is not particularly good. (She is now working in Taiping Insurance Co.) She is not nearly as charming as before. It is a pity that a beauty cannot stand the force of time.

Tan Baoshen came to tell me that after having rice dumplings here last Sunday, he had a bad stomach upset. So it is without doubt that my illness was caused by eating rice dumplings.
