Dull

I studied Russian in the morning.

At noon Shaozhou invited Mr. Hamilton for a farewell lunch at the Embassy. He also invited Mr. and Mrs. Balfour as well as Mr. Litvinov to accompany him.

Today the Red Army has completely occupied Vilna, and pushed forward to East Prussia. I heard that the German Government has evacuated residents of East Prussia. According to the speed of advancement, soon they will advance to East Prussia, then Germany Proper will be occupied for the first time and the Germans will feel the suffering of war for the first time. The Red Army will take revenge, and in the future the dream of Germans deeming themselves as the supreme race to rule the whole world will be shattered to pieces. This is perhaps lucky for the prospect of world peace. The evils of Hitler and others dragged Germany into this situation, I think the fundamental reason is that they do not have enough knowledge. People who have inadequate knowledge to rule will certainly place countries in great disasters. Now I believe even more the saying of Dr. Sun Yatsen that “knowledge is difficult, action is easy”.
