Counsellor Liu went to see Canadian Minister Wilgress. Wilgress said he saw Eden yesterday. Eden looked very well after the conference, and Eden told him the results were quite satisfactory.

Counsellor Liu then went to see Director Litvinov of the Soviet Foreign Office. He said that although he did not know what happened in the conference, he was very optimistic about it. This proves that the Soviet attitude towards the conference is quite positive. Attaché Hu met French Minister Garreau. He was also optimistic. Yesterday’s conference lasted from 2.30 until 7.30, five hours in total. British and American reporters promised to give me one copy of their reports. Also the British and American press conferences usually don’t allow foreign reporters to take part. This time, Attaché Hu was allowed under the title of reporter. This showed their overt sincerity in cooperation. Probably it was because of my big party for Chinese National Day. Foreign people are very receptive to this type of thing. They have started to be respectful and have become closer to me. This will make things easier in the future and so we must be very careful with diplomatic banquets.
