In the morning, the Dutch Ambassador Baron Douglas visited me. He had transferred from China, so we talked quite happily.

This morning Foreign Minister Eden reported in parliament and admitted there was a difference between the Soviet Union and Britain. And as to the critics saying that Britain and the Soviet Union should have a better relationship, he said this should depend on both sides and one shouldn’t blame only one side.

In the evening I listened to the Chongqing broadcast. Zhang Daofan broadcast to the people in the occupied areas. He mentioned the illegal activities of the CCP, and that at the 11th Congress it had been decided to urge the CCP to correct its mistakes. Probably in the past few months, the CCP has posed as a problem and the situation is quite tense. It is disheartening that such a thing has happened in the midst of this War of Resistance.
