In the morning, the Australian Charge d’Affaires Officer visited me. He said 1) The Soviet Government is still trying to pacify the Japanese and this is understandable. Therefore, there are several cases involving Japan and the Soviet Union has handled them with great care. 2) The visit of Roosevelt to the Soviet Union will be difficult. It will be even more difficult to come to Moscow because the reception is already a big problem.

At 6.00 secretaries Perkins and Calder of the American Embassy invited me to a cocktail party. I talked to the Red Cross representative Hubbell. He was an understanding person and he praised highly the work of Hu Ji bang.

In the evening I could neither dream nor sleep. Is this the result of having had good dreams for the past two nights? This further proves the saying of karma. Probably there must be bitterness within happiness, and there must be happiness within bitterness. Karma in dreams is like this so we should be watchful with our own behaviour.
