The old King of Iran has passed away. The Iranian Embassy held a memorial service this afternoon. I went with Shaozhou to deliver our condolences.
In the past few days I have been reading a book called A Search In Secret India by Paul Brunton. He talked to many people who practiced yoga in India. It was very interesting. Westerners will have difficulty understanding their mindset and action.
Today, the Soviet editorials talked about the Polish Incident. They referred to the British news that the Polish exile Government underwent fundamental reorganisation, but the Soviet side was not clear what the reorganisation referred to. According to the Soviet point of view, the exiled government should completely separate itself from anti-Soviet elements like Sosnkowski and join the Polish Committee of National Liberation. Only then will this be beneficial to it. The Soviet attitude is exactly the same as Garreau said yesterday. But if it is the case, they should first dissolve the Polish (exile) government, and they have to get Soviet recognition that there aren’t anti-Soviet elements only then can they join the Polish Committee of National Liberation. This type of condition is totally unacceptable to the Polish exile government. From the viewpoint of a third party, it seems too harsh. But the Soviet Union used the blood of the Red Army to regain Polish territory, it is unreasonable to expect that it will give the territory back to Polish anti-Soviet elements. All in all, leaders of the exile government have underestimated the strength of the Red Army previously, and they reckon that the Red Army cannot liberate Poland. They also estimate that the policy of Britain and the United States towards the Soviet Union is one preventing Communism. These two estimations are wrong. They should follow the morals of being politicians and adopt the right attitude. They should resign and let other people take over and change the national policy. But they do not do so and decline to resign. Now they still beg for understanding from others and linger on. This is shameful and surely they deserve it.
Ying Yiquan said that after Ambassador Kerr met the Polish Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, he looked very bad. The representative of the British Intelligence Department said it was perhaps because the Soviet-Polish Incident was difficult and hopeless.
