I studied Russian in the morning.

In the past few days, the Sino-Soviet diplomatic relationship has taken a downturn and I am deeply worried. I cannot sleep well at night. I think since I arrived here I have achieved nothing and I feel very sorry about it. Though I cannot control the development of the situation, I can find no excuses for myself.

The British newspapers have published that Eden will resign from the post of Concurrent Foreign Minister. He was originally pro-Soviet, but because of the Polish Incident, the Soviet side criticised him severely. It is a great pity. He is the enlightened element within the Conservatives, and was very hopeful of becoming Prime Minister. This move from the Soviet Union seems to be as unwise as the attack on Willkie.
