Out to Dr Hsieh’s with [unclear] Yin and had lunch there. Discussed with C.Y. regarding his scheme for the cigarette monopoly at Kwangsi. Had supper at Wang Chonghui’s place. He told me how Yang Jie (楊杰)[1] had divorced his wife Xu Xianyue (徐賢樂) who wants to go with me to Kuibyshev. Yang is a brute, but I have never liked Miss Xu, and to bring her to Kuibyshev would create an endless amount of scandal. Dr Wang said that certain quarters wanted her there but I said I would raise objections and asked Dr Wang to try to prevent it.

[1] Yang Jie (1889-1949) studied in Japan and was a military expert. He had been Ambassador to the Soviet Union. He was assassinated in Hong Kong in 1949.
