Qian Tai sent me a letter, he quoted the words of Wen Yuanning (溫源寧)[1] saying that people in Chongqing praised my work (in the Soviet Union), and he thought that I should feel relieved.
In the morning, I studied Russian.
In the evening I went to the Grand Theatre with Jingchen, Chengyong and my Russian teacher to watch William Tell (an opera in 4 acts). The soprano as well as the main character E. Kpyjuukoba was quite good, and in the 3rd act when she secretly met Arnold they sang together and it was quite nice. The background dancing of that act and the strong wind on the lake in the 4th act were fine.
[1] Wen Yuanning (1899-1984) was Cantoneseand he graduated from Cambridge University. He was an expert on the English language and literature.
