At 4.00 in the afternoon I went to room 426 of the National Hotel to return a visit by the Luxembourg Minister Blum. He said after American troops liberated Luxembourg, they entered German territory yesterday, only about 6 km away from Trier. That city is 22 km inside German territory. This means the American army has already ventured 16 km into German territory and is certainly beyond the Siegfried Line. Trier city only has a population of 5,000, but they were all die-hard supporters of Hitler. Most of them moved from East Prussia, and their knowledge level is not very high. Hitler used them to fill his border area. The people of Luxembourg have hated them for a long time. Though Hitler spent a lot of money building up that city, there was no possibility of defence. It will definitely be occupied by the American army, and this is one thing that the people of Luxembourg will rejoice about.

I went shopping at the book shop and the diplomatic shop with Counsellor Liu, Attachés Qian and Hu. But there was nothing worth buying. I only bought several ties.
