Marguerite Higgins said in her article about her reminiscences living in the Soviet Union for three months that presently the Soviet Union is governed by a committee control system. Even the power of Khrushchev is not absolute. In her article describing Khrushchev she listed four points:
1) Khrushchev deeply believed in the ultimate success of Marxism and Leninism.
2) During a very happy time at a reception, some Russians were dancing a folk dance. Originally Khrushchev was not good at it so he stayed still in the corner, but Mikoyan dragged him out and forced him to join.
3) At a tea party last year, Khrushchev embraced Malenkov and smiled and told foreign reporters that someone said I would kill my little Georgi and it was certainly ridiculous.
4) With regard to Turkey joining the Atlantic Alliance, he said to the Turkish Ambassador “Stay in NATO if you want. But it won’t do you any good. If there is any difficulty your NATO friends certainly won’t be able to get to you on time. You will be eaten up first.” These words are enough to see his character.
