At 11.00 a.m. the train arrived in Moscow. All the Embassy personnel came to the station to welcome me back.

Yesterday the Allied Army landed in the southern part of France. It went quite smoothly. I heard that that there were Germans had three divisions of the German army, and they gave very little resistance. Probably the Allies had already begun to bombard the German army in the coastal area ten days ago and the Allied Army used the navy to bombard, destroying all the defence installations. Then they used paratroopers to drop down in the rear, and German force defence installations were destroyed. The Germans were attacked from the front and the rear, rendering them unable to cope, so they either surrendered or died.
