Today was the second anniversary of the German-Soviet war, and the Soviet side did not have any memorial ceremony. I checked around that the other Diplomatic Corps did not do anything last year so I did not make any move either.

The American coal miners’ strike has not yet been solved and workers have rioted in Detroit. I heard there was fighting between white workers and Red Indian workers. I am not sure whether the boundaries of wage and race in the United States can be improved with the lessons of war. I am deeply worried about the world’s future because if the United Stated doesn’t erase these two weak points, they will become one of the black spots of humanity. If they are not erased in this war, I am not sure if the method of erasure will make human beings more painful in the future.

I have been studying Russian for two months. Every week the teacher comes three times, for one hour each time. I practice on my own for more than two hours every day. I have learnt about 500 words, but the Russian conjugation is so much it is the most complicated in the world, and is hard to remember. I reckon that if the language isn’t thoroughly reformed, it will pose a big obstacle towards advancement.  My teacher said next time I can start to read short and easier news in the newspapers. I have worked very hard these last two months. I didn’t work so hard even when I was at Hong Kong University.
