New Year’s Day, Xinmao Year
Today is New Year’s Day, Xinmao Year of the lunar calendar. Looking back over the past year, it has not been a success either for me personally or in public. I have achieved nothing, and my academic progress has been slow. Financially, I have spent so much money that it makes me feel astonished. I remember that when I was a young boy my father did the fortune-telling for me, as well as the fortune telling of Lin Gengbai. He told me that fifty-five years of age would be the worst year of my life. In this year, I would lose all that I had amassed in the past years. Though it was not really like this, it really made me feel scared. Li Dugong said my luck would turn for the better when I turned fifty-six. I hope that last year is over and my luck will change for the better. But I should work harder and be more careful.
The New York Herald Tribune commented that with regard to the upcoming agreements with Japan and reorganization of the Japan’s military weapons and equipment; these were naturally the policies that the United States should adopt at this time.
