The New Delhi broadcast said that the CCP have adopted the New Latin (pinyin) as the new Chinese script [for transliteration]. Chinese is a mono-syllabic language, so the phonetics of the syllables is limited, therefore the new script might not be sufficient for usage. Also, it is very sad that the culture of China would be erased in such a way.

The four Deputy Foreign Ministers have begun their meetings in Paris. The newspapers in Britain and the United States were pessimistic. Probably both sides have no intention to make concessions. This is no more than an act of propaganda. They were forced to have such meetings.

General MacArthur declared that the Korean War would drag on, because if the armies advanced the rear line of the enemy would shrink. It would be bad for the Allied Army.
