The Soviet Union announced that its Ambassador to Britain, Ivan Maisky, has been transferred to take up the position of Deputy People’s Commissar for Foreign Affairs. The American and British Embassy staff reckoned Maisky was the one in the Soviet government who best understood Britain. This transfer bodes well.
