Twenty-ninth day of the twelth lunar month
In the morning, I went to see Minister Song and reported my talks with different people to him. He was good to me. He told me that he treated me with utmost kindness, and I should know his character. He really didn’t care about formality, and though he did not invite me to have a meal every day, he never forgot me or ignored me. So he said I could treat him like a best friend, if there was anything to do to be of help, just feel free to send him a telegram direct, and from now on we should work closely. He advised me to see Madame Sun Yat-sen (宋慶齡)[1]. He said that although she was a little bit pro-Soviet, she understood the Soviet Union well. At the end he said if war did break out between Japan and the Soviet Union, perhaps he would go to the Soviet Union. After he was back in China this time, we worked together for two months. I could feel that he was very kind towards me and I was quite moved. Before I left he gave me a latest fountain pen as a gift.
Zhang Daoxing (張道行) invited me to have lunch at a hotel.
At 2.30 Ma Xiuzhong came to bid farewell to me. She has a wonderful figure. Her breasts are what Cantonese refer to as bamboo-shoots style and with white and smooth skin; no wonder many men like her very much. It is a pity her education is not very good, but she was very good to Fanny and me.
At 5.00 I went to see Ambassador Gu Weijun, and discussed the diplomatic situation. His view was similar to Qian Tai’s.
At 6.30 Chief-of-staff He Jingzhi invited me to a farewell dinner. Deputy-Chairman Feng Huanzhang (馮玉祥)[2] was also present. He was knowledgable about the Soviet Union.
