The new American Ambassador to the Soviet Union Harriman visited me, saying that Hull and Eden had left Moscow at 8 a.m. and brought with him a signed photo of Hull and gave it to me as a gift on behalf of Hull. Mr. Hull was really kind to me. Ambassador Harriman also said that public opinion was very pleased with the Four Powers Declaration and he gave me copies of the telegrams he received.
I received congratulatory telegrams from Gu Weijun and Jin Wensi (金問泗)[1]. They had enquiries too. I answered them immediately.
[1] Jin Wensi (1892-1968) was a diplomat who had studied at Columbia University.
