Wednesday, 3 September
There was heavy rain last night. The roof leaked and I had to move my bed three times so I could not sleep and I felt quite tired today.
I went to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at 7.45 a.m. Sun Fo cabled Guo Taiji, enquiring about the diplomatic situation. Guo Taiji immediately sent the reply telegram. I asked Zhong Weiwen (鍾偉文) to transcribe it as I did not want it to pass via the (telegram) section. At eleven, we had a departmental meeting. At 3.30 p.m. I went to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, asking Commissioner Yin to state in detail the northern section of the Yunnan-Burmese boundary, and I worked studiously with him to raise the case for presenting it to the British side again. At 6.30 I left the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. At seven o’clok Dai Li and Wang Fansheng (王芃生) invited me to supper. I returned home at ten-thirty in the evening.
