After the Allies Army landed in France progress was satisfactory. They have reached near the Caen area.

I read the newspapers brought over by the diplomatic messenger, and learnt that the wife of Huang Kejiang, Xu Zhonghan, died on the 10 March aged 68 years old. She was kind and very good to me. She always gave good advice to Yanfang. When she was young she participated in revolution and believed in Buddhism when she was old. She never boasted of her own achievements, and it was not easy. I also leant that Wang Yongbin (王用賓)[1] died on 7 April.  Many of my old friends have passed away, and I feel very sad.

[1] Wang Yongbin (1992-1944) was an official in the Nationalist Government.
