At 7.45 the British broadcast said that the Commander of the Allied troops in the Mediterranean, Eisenhower, signed an unconditional truce with Italy this afternoon. At 8.00 the Mexican Ambassador invited us to dinner. Deputy People’s Commissar of Foreign Affairs, Litvinov, was also present. It seemed that he hadn’t received the news. When Litvinov was the People’s Commissar of Foreign Affairs I met him several times and he also asked me about Minister Song, Director Kung, and President Sun.
