1 作者欄位連結至《人物資訊整合系統》,以了解作者的相關資料;
The "Women and Gender History Research Group" of the Institute of Modern History Institute, Academia Sinica, endeavors to collect related books and journals from libraries worldwide, thus establishing a foundation for continued women's and gender studies at the institute. In order to preserve and use these data more efficiently, the institute has begun scanning and digitalizing the collections as well as categorizing the metadata. To date, 214 journals and periodicals and 110,000 individual materials have been added to the "Modern Women Journals Database," which has been made available for public use since 2015.
By the time of its completion, this database will create new possibilities for the historical study of women in modern China, commerce, and journals and periodicals. The materials and tools provided will not only broaden the scope of research on journals, but also facilitate multiple research dimensions, including advertisements, images, trends in publishing, etc.; and topics revolving around quantitative approaches, we suspect, will be particularly benefited. Moreover, establishing connections between data is one of the important functions of the database. By searching and quantifying publication data via the database, the user can map out the entire picture of the publishing industry (especially concerning journals) in the Republic of China, including the dates and places of publication, editions, prices, the potential relations between different journals, etc. This information would undoubtedly further our understanding of the functions of "print capitalism" in the Republican era and the roles gender plays within these mechanisms.
Regarding the functions of the database, aside from the basic abilities to search the catalogues and to both browse and compare the images of original texts, the "Modern Women Journals Database" has been integrated with the institute's "Modern History Databases" (MHDB) in two notable ways:
1. The author field has been connected to "The Integrated Information System on Modern and Contemporary Characters" (IISMCC) so as to apprehend the related information of the authors.
2. The publication periods of the journals has been connected to the "Modern Annals TIS System" and "The Library Newspaper and Periodical Data Retrieval System" at Kuo Ting-yee Library. By using the historical outline of the "TIS System" to establish information regarding contemporary contexts, the user can better view journal information from multiple facets.
Moreover, due to the sheer number of journals and the variance concerning their lengths of publication periods, the "Modern Women Journals Database" has designed a special function for quickly searching these publication periods. Users can use timelines to examine publications within a certain period of time and switch to a more detailed view to read the details of respective catalogues.
